Time to promote the positives!
The Australian National Council on Drugs (ANCD) welcomes Drug Action
Week 2002, an initiative of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Council
of Australia (ADCA).
Chair of the ANCD, Major Brian Watters, said The ANCD believes
Drug Action Week is the perfect opportunity to positively recognise
the tremendous work of individuals and organisations in the alcohol
and other drugs (AOD) sector acrossAustralia.
Referring to the ANCDs AOD agency forum inCairnslast week,
Major Watters added Several forum participants suggested that
there needs to be more promotion and recognition for programs that
have had positive results in dealing with AOD issues. Participants
expressed concern that too often there is too much focus on the
negative issues associated with AOD.
Major Watters concluded by stating The ANCD would like to
stress that the general public should be aware that prevention and
treatment programs do work and people can turn their lives around
to the benefit of themselves and the community.
