NIDAC Strategic Plan (PDF: 188 K / 16 pages)
As part of the Australian Government response to addressing drug and alcohol problems across Australia, the Australian National Council on Drugs (ANCD) was established in 1998 as the principal advisory body to the Australian Government on drug related policy and plays a critical role in ensuring that non-government and community sectors have a voice in the development of relevant policies and programs, and to provide feedback on the impact drug policies and programs have in addressing drug and alcohol issues, and the harm it causes our communities.
As Indigenous drug and alcohol issues are an ANCD priority, the National Indigenous Drug and Alcohol Committee (NIDAC) was formed in 2004 to assist ANCD in providing advice to government on a range of issues that impact on Indigenous communities and ways of addressing the serious drug and alcohol issues that exist for Indigenous Australians, whilst ensuring that Indigenous drug and alcohol issues remain a priority.
NIDAC monitors the implementation of the National Drug Strategy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Complementary Action Plan 2003–2009. NIDAC reports to the Australian National Council on Drugs / Intergovernmental Committee on Drugs (IGCD) Joint Executive Committee.
