Dr Stephen Castle
Australian Government Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
Dr Stephen Castle is Director of the Substance Use Section in the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, which is part of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
Dr Castle is responsible for the management of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Substance Use Program and the development of Indigenous drug and alcohol policy in conjunction with the Department’s Drug Strategy Branch.
Dr Castle has been in the Department of Health and Ageing since 1992 and has worked in a number of areas including: primary care, mental health and acute care. Prior to joining the public service in 1988 Dr Castle worked as a molecular geneticist for five years after graduating from the Australian National University with a Ph.D. in human genetics.
