Mr Daryl Smeaton
CEO, Alcohol, Education and Rehabilitation Foundation
Daryl Smeaton is the Chief Executive Officer of the Alcohol, Education and Rehabilitation Foundation Ltd and, beginning in October 2001, assisted the Foundation’s Board to establish the company. The Foundation became fully operational on 3 December 2001.
In a career spanning 35 years, Daryl has undertaken a variety of high profile tasks. Most recently he was Chief Executive of the Real Estate Institute of Australia. Prior to that he worked for the Federal Government for over 30 years, with 7 years as Chief of Staff to 2 Federal Justice Ministers and nearly 5 years as Executive Member of the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Board.
To date, the Foundation has made more than 350 grants totalling over $55,000,000 and is keen to support the alcohol and other drugs sector in addressing the effects of alcohol and licit substance misuse in the Australian community. The Foundation is a strategic funder and seeks to enhance government financial support rather than replace it.
