Vision
To reduce alcohol and drug problems and associated harms in Indigenous communities
Terms of reference
The National Indigenous Drug and Alcohol Committee recognising the Australian Government’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders People’s Complementary Action Plan will:
- Promote the implementation of the National Drug Strategy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Complementary Action Plan 2003–2009;
- Provide expert advice to governments on the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs among Indigenous people, are related to the Complementary Action Plan, and which targets the following Indigenous alcohol and other drug issues:
- Alcohol
- Tobacco
- Illicit drugs
- Licit drugs
- Workforce Development
- Partnership Approach with Police / Law Enforcement Authorities
- Consistent quality data on Indigenous alcohol and other drug use
- Work closely with governments, non-government organisations and committees already established to respond to the harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs among Indigenous people.
- Provide regular reports to the Australian National Council on Drugs, Inter-Governmental Committee on Drugs and the National Indigenous Council.
